Take the first step toward achieving your goals and optimizing your mental health and emotional wellness by scheduling your first appointment. Please email or call (240) 601-5272 to get started.

You may also submit your information through our contact form at the bottom of the page.

We may be working with clients, so no matter how you reach out to us, please allow 24- 48 hours for us to get back to you, Monday through Friday.

What can I expect in our first session together?

In our initial session, we will work together to understand what brought you to seek counseling. It can typically take 3-4 sessions to gather enough information to understand you and your concerns. Through this evaluation, we can recommend the best way to move forward to support your needs and goals.

Counseling represents an investment of time, money, and energy dedicated to your personal growth and well-being. If it is not a good fit, that’s ok! We are happy to provide referrals for you to consider.

With what populations do you work?
We welcome teens (17 years and up) and adults seeking counseling support as individuals, couples, and families.
What will our counseling experience be like with you?

We work to build a therapeutic relationship with our clients, one of safety and trust built over time. Establishing an emotionally safe space for our clients is paramount for successful healing outcomes. In this safe space, we encourage you to speak your truth and express your feelings and emotions openly and honestly without judgment. Learning your unique life narrative and concerns enables us to guide you through observation and insight.

As we understand your concerns, we will also look at influencing factors. We keep in mind the trajectory of human development and what is needed at each stage (from infancy through late adulthood) to continue evolving. Knowing your strengths and vulnerabilities helps to understand your own unique identity better.

We help our clients connect their present with the past to become more aware and congruent. The primary goal of our collaboration is a sense of wholeness, which includes self-awareness, understanding, acceptance, and love.

How do I know when I'm ready for counseling?

Suppose you’re sick and tired of going around the same old “life mountains” of frustration, unmet emotional needs and expectations, not being heard or understood, destructive behaviors and emotions, poor relational choices, lack of life purpose, direction, and sense of inner peace (to name a few). In that case, it’s a safe bet you’re ready for counseling.

Remember, it’s essential to recognize counseling is not a “one-size-fits-all” form of work. As humans, each of us has different wiring, and it takes time, intentionality, consistency, and personal investment in ourselves to get the best outcomes. Honesty, transparency, and vulnerability in the sessions are critical elements to your overall health and wellness. Again, you get out of it what you put into the counseling collaboration.

Odis, what is your training and experience?

I received my doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from Virginia Tech and dual Master of Arts degrees in Counseling Psychology and Forensic Psychology from Marymount University. I have been in private practice for the past 18 years. My clinical training and focus with my clients adhere to Carl Roger’s Self-Concept Theory of congruence between the real and ideal selves, leading to self-actualization, where one achieves one’s full potential.

For 18 years, I have worked in several clinical settings, including inpatient, intensive outpatient (IOP) programs, group practices, schools, prisons and jails, and Courts. These various experiences have enhanced my ability to understand, empathize, and have compassion for the human experience.

What role does faith play in your practice?

Christian faith is a big part of our identity and an essential component of our counseling work. One’s core beliefs, no matter what they are, cannot be fabricated. We don’t force faith and beliefs on anyone, and we enjoy learning about and respecting our clients’ beliefs and perspectives.

We believe faith, hope, and love are the cornerstones of Christianity and help provide some degree of perspective on life’s complexities that connect us as human beings.

We look forward to helping those who desire a synthesis of their understanding of the Christian faith into a better sense of self-awareness, understanding, acceptance, and love. This understanding ultimately will lead to wholeness, unity, and a more profound sense of God’s unwavering love.
